Hike & Bike in the Eastyrolean mountains…

Autumn, clear skies, awesome weather… What to do? Go biking… To explore the beauty of our mountains I wanted to do an adventurous tour… So plans were out and finally the decision was made where I wanted to go…

Hike and bike up to the Nussingscharte up at 2741 m, further to the Sudetendeutsche Hut (2656 m) and then bike down all the way back to Matrei… That was the plan…

With the help of my dad who saved me to bike a few km’s (yes, I have to admit that I’m a downhill-oriented biker ;-)…), I started my tour high above the Felbertauernstreet. From there I biked to the Obere Taxeralm 1653 m….

view from the Taxer Almen...
From now on there wasn’t any path to bike, just to toss and carry the bike on my back…

16kg bike on my back + my backpack... hard work...
Just one hiker came along my direction, an italian guy, who couldn’t believe his eyes… A woman, all by herself, carrying up her bike, in alpine terrain, crossing snowfields, how crazy can you be? My italian isn’t that good anymore but at least we could talk a little and he was quite impressed what I was doing… The higher I got up the mountain, the harder it was to get along, high alpine terrain, massive rocks all over, snowfield but my goal was to make it… The last few meters below the Nussingscharte I had to crawl on my hands and feet to make it up the mountain… Finally I made it! 1100 hm’s later, with the heavy weight of my bike on the back… And what a stunning view high up there!!!!

rocks... everywhere rocks...

Now a looooong, challenging downhill was waiting for me… And I don’t think that anybody ever made this tour with a bike – it’s just toooo crazy 😉

on the way down to the Sudetendeutsche Hütte...
lookers left to the creek, there is a small path where I came down... awesome downhill but very challenging...
1700 hm’s downhill later I got back home, with a huge smile on my face, happy I made this tour and got home safely 🙂
