Weißseespitzen revival…

Two years ago I’ve already climbed up and skied the Weißseespitze Northface with Otti Hauer… We had great conditions, perfect weather… Today it was a bit different 😉 Although the weather forecast didn’t predict snowshowers and that bad weather, my Fischer teammate Steph Skrobar and me weren’t lucky… But that didn’t matter, we tried – sometimes you fail but without trying you’ll never know how it’s gonna be…

Wake up call at 4.45 a.m. No, I’m not a morning person, it’s always a mission ;-)… We drove to Kaunertal valley, the clouds were already greeting but we were still confident that the clouds would clear…

The Weißseespitze is a quite “easy” accessible mountain as you can drive up the street to the bottom station of the glacier ski resort… From there you hike/climb around 1,5 hours, 600 hm’s up a ice wall with up to 50 degrees… The last days were abnormal warm, so the decision for hiking this mountain made sense, as there is no long way traversing into a valley, short access, etc…

7.30 a.m. We are not the only ones up there… A lot of skiteams training and hitting the gates… Still no good visibility…

Took the T-bar up, waited up there, clouds were moving, a bit blue sky came out but clouds moved it away again…. The waiting game began… Took one round at the T-bar… Another one… Another one…

9.30 a.m. No chance, mother nature doesn’t want us to go up there today… No visibility, no chance, not a good idea to start hiking in the fog… Especially when you are on a glacier… But still, we had a good day, saw that the conditions up on the mountain are quite good… Tomorrow, next chance for another mission…

Here’s a short video:

Waiting game…

Have a good day, Mel:-)
