Lienzer Dolomites

Home sweet home… It’s great to be back to see friends and enjoy life back home.

Andi just came straight away back from Chile and wanted to go biking. As there was the “Dolomitenmann” going on for the weekend in Lienz, I wanted to go home, so I had an idea. I tried it last year already in a different version but failed. What?
Biked and hiked to Kerschbaumeralm, tossed the bike for a while until the forrest official came and said, that I had to leave my bike in the woods. Not allowed to move on. Okay, this year then a different version…

We drove from Ibk to Lienz, all the way up to Klammbrückl (1100m), from there on we went on and biked until the road ended. At the altitude of 1400 meters we had to start tossing and carrying the bike. The trail to Kerschbaumeralm (1902m) is very challenging, I guess people can’t believe that somebody would bike down there…

It was already late afternoon and therefore no other hikers were crossing our path. Well, nearly nobody… Two young hikers came down from Spitzkofel and told us that the bivy is free. Nobody up at Linderhütte. Perfect. That was our aim for today. Staying at the bivy “Linderhütte” for the night and watch the mountain runners and paragliders from the “Dolomitenmann” the next day…

The young hikers couldn’t believe that we wanted to carry our bike all the way up to Hallebachtörl. Well, we did. Made it up there, left our bikes behind a big rock and went on.

heavy load on the back...

Hiked and climbed further to the bivy and got there just in time. Just before it got dark. What an amazing view and such a cool atmosphere – awesome!

There were enough blankets to cover ourselves but it’s always the same when sleeping in the mountains. Need to pee but don’t wanna get up until you really have to, otherwise you are not able to sleep…
Happened again… But slept very well after the walk outside until we were woken up by some hikers. They didn’t expect anybody in the bivy but it was so worth getting up… The view to the Dolomites – stunning, amazing, beautiful!

This day was completely different than last day. No people on the mountain yesterday, this day lots of people around. But it’s definetely worth the climb to Kuhbodentörl to watch the great performance of the men taking part at the “Dolomitenmann”.
Before, we climbed to Spitzkofel, had an amazing view there and went on to see the “Dolomitenmänner”…

We were just in time to see the winner running up to Kuhbodentörl. It was just unbelievable! The guy from Eritrea was running up the mountain… And this after a 2000 altitude meter mountain run! Amazing! At the finish line he asked the organizer where the race went on 😉 What a cool guy!

Watched the runners and paragliders and waited until most of the People went down again. We didn’t want to have any conflicts with the hikers, so we waited on top, to enjoy the ride down back to the car…
Another challenging but cool trail in the stunning landscape of the Lienzer Dolomites… Home sweet home…
Thxxx Andi for the great company 🙂
