It should have been my first downhillrace but sometimes it comes different than you think ;-)…I am not 100% happy with the decision but it was raining cats and dogs in the morning, snow was still covering the mountains, my body is still sore from the crashes yesterday and after the hard training run yesterday I considered it would be better not to ride the race… Sometimes it’s better to listen to your body and not overdo it, as injuries happen quite easily with not standing 100% behind what you are doing… I know what I’m talking about ;-)… (Had enough injuries already ;-)…)
To the day yesterday… When even the guys say that the conditions are difficult and really hard – that has to say something ;-)!!! I was part of it, although just in the training but it gave me the opportunity to meet some cool people, have a great time, even if the training run down was the hardest what I’ve done so far… Happy I survived it 😉 1000 hm downhill in slushy, muddy and sooo slippery conditions… Hard work… And then today the race – 1000 hm more!!!!
We started the training run from the top station of the cable car Plose, up at 2000 meters, down the forrest with hardly any trail, just the bikers and the mud made kind of a trail, slippery and really hard to ride… It had snowed over night and it was soooooo muddy and slippery…. The first 200 meters where just going straightline downhill underneath the cable car, having trouble with holding the balance and not getting stuck at some rocks, I just crashed twice ;-)… hehe…
OMG, it was really hard!!!! On foot it was so steep and slippery that you could hardly keep on your feet… Sliding down the mountain… Okay with dry conditions it would have been much easier but those conditions made it really hard and challenging… You should have seen all the riders… Muddy and full of dirt from head till toe… Some riders had dirt overalls on which was definetely the best solution!!!! Down at the washing zone where we had to clean our bikes before going up again, there was just a huge lake of dirt 😉
Today I was just a spectator with Babs but having in mind what those guys and not to forget some really great girls are doing! That is just awesome!!!!! Hads off!!!! Awesome!!!! And today the race started at 2500 meters leading down to the city of Brixen – 2000 m inbetween, 13km’s downhill, hardest challenge for body and mind!!!! Really tough, believe me!!!!
Some impressions from one section…
