After working sooooo hard, I needed a time out – perfect because the weather was good, so my bike was waiting for me :-)…
Sleeping out long and then enjoying the region around Zermatt, biking around the highest peaks… Such a beautiful day!!!! As my energy is reloading again I bought a ticket and enjoyed the convenience of taking the cable-car up and biking down different trails… For warming up I took the 4cross track and had fun playing around…
The 4cross downhill trail...
Then I tried out the Worldcup Downhill Trail…
pure adrenaline...
Wow, for that you definitely need a downhill bike and some balls ;-)… It’s a very tough, hard trail, I managed most of the trail on the bike but for some sections I had to get down from the bike… Saw some downhillers coming down, I bet it was not the first time they did that ;-)…
Some local downhillers...
The second time I did better and the third time even rode most of it :-)… My arms and brakes needed a break, so chilling in the sun with the beautiful view to the Matterhorn…
Matterhorn...
The cable-car ran until 6 p.m., so I took the chance to get in another run and went up one more time to bike down to Täsch, up on the “Europaweg”, with no more people on the mountain – wonderful!!! As a biker on the hiking trails your not really welcomed by hikers ;-)… But staying friendly and slowing down helps at least a bit ;-)…
So a wonderful day with lots of altimeters downhill :-)… At least 3600 hm downhill…
on the Europeway... up on 2300 m...
Alêtsch Arena...
Aletscharena
I’m getting used to taking the cable-car uphill to explore a new region without lots of strength ;-)… In Switzerland the infrastructure is great and it’s NO PROBLEM at all to take the bike up… It also seems like that the Swiss people are already more used to bikers on hiking trails… Seems like that…
My knee doesn’t take to much strain at the moment, so that’s the main reason why I took the cable-car… I already had some info of the official bike-trails but on the hiking map that I got at the station, I just got a normal map… So I went up from Mörel, 759 m, to Riederalp, 1925 in the most convenient way – by cable-car… The area is really nice, hard to capture those impressions on paper…
Biked all the way up to Hohfluh, 2227 m, to get a perfect view to the huge Aletschglacier…
The impressive Aletsch glacier...
Wasn’t that lucky with the weather up there but doesn’t matter, as I’ll be back when it will be better… At least I will try to… Spend some time up the mountain until I got ready for the first part of the downhill trail… Sunday, lots of hikers on and in the way but thank to my cool bell, I got from my friends, it’s not such a problem 😉 It’s just always the same, they look like I’m an Alien ;-)…
Got down to Villa Cassel, 2065 m and decided to try a path that wasn’t on the downhill list…
Villa Cassel, 2065 m
Sometimes stupidness should really hurt!!!! Oh man, never follow a trail that is approx. 20 cm wide… It doesn’t get better and wider ;-)… But I had to try it and I didn’t want to carry the bike back up… Well, would have been better, so I paid my dues ;-)… On the map the trail was marked as a “Bergwanderweg”, so sometimes those trails are rideable and sometimes not… This one was definitely a no-go with the bike as there was within 600 hm, about 20% to ride and 80% to carry… A hiker passed by and asked where I was going… I answered in American slang and he gave me some info about the options I had… Actually not that many… It was somehow funny, being a different person for a moment… and he believed me ;-)… I knew where I had to get back so I took the trail the man didn’t recommend me 😉 And he was right… Had to climb up a few sections with the bike on the back and was constantly riding on the edge, no mistake allowed as next to the path it was going down 1000 m into heaven ;-)…
Bike and backpack... 20 kg on my back ;-)... good workout...;-)...Non falling zone...it's going down...Knebelbrücke, 1622 m...
Quite a challenge but what would life be without any challenges 😉 and the adrenaline was sometimes quite high up… Good for the heart ;-)… Finally I got down to the first small village, found some more nice single trails down the mountain until I managed it back to the car… And then – SWIMMING :-)… First time since ages that I’ve been in the water… Soooo crowed there but that didn’t matter, as it was just soooo good to sit in the water, in the thermal water and relax and get a massage from the jets…
Another beautiful day…. And now my batteries are reloaded again 🙂 Good because just working all the time is not good ;-)…
